Paula Sherriff MP

Paula Sherriff was elected Labour MP for Dewsbury and Mirfield in 2015 following a career in public service, most recently in the NHS and previously with the police, where she was commended for her work with victims of crime. An active trade unionist, she is a member of the GMB and TSSA unions and served as a Labour councillor. As an MP, she was elected to the Health Select Committee and as Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Women’s Health. Known for running high profile campaigns on issues such as the ‘tampon tax’ and big business practices, she recently became the first back bench MP to successful amend a government Budget Resolution.

Why I called on the government to take action on diabetes

There are four million people living with diabetes in the UK today, and someone is diagnosed on average every two minutes. The NHS spends about £10 billion on diabetes every year – 10% of its budget – and 80% of those costs are spent on avoidable complications.
