Here is my response to the National Audit Office findings that £20m of public money put into the Garden Bridge may have been wasted:
Quite clearly, the many concerns raised by the London Assembly about burdening the taxpayer with funding this Boris Johnson vanity project have been vindicated.
There was always a huge question mark hanging over the appropriateness of allocating TfL funds to a project that provides no real transport benefits. Instead of listening to these concerns the former Mayor and his Westminster colleagues chose to plough ahead with this flawed project.
The first step to assuring that no further public money is wasted on this shambles is a firm refusal from the new Mayor to sign the maintenance guarantee.
